# How to Add Video to HubSpot Pages: Embeds, Background Video and Video Galleries

Nov 2, 2026 · StudioNope

A product tour beside the pricing table, a muted film of the office behind the homepage headline, a page of recorded webinars that people can search. HubSpot gives you two built-in ways to put a video on a page, and both are fine for one clip in a column of text. Neither runs a background video behind a headline or builds a library people can filter.

This post covers how to add a video to a HubSpot page with the tools HubSpot ships, which plan each one needs, how to add a background video without making the page slow, what Google needs before it shows your video in search, and where [Video Pro](https://www.studionope.com/video-pro) takes over.

## The two ways HubSpot gives you

HubSpot's knowledge base describes two routes, and they differ in where the video lives.

- **HubSpot video** means you upload the file to the files tool, then add it to a page with the video module or from a rich text module with *Insert \> Video \> HubSpot video*. According to [HubSpot's article on adding videos](https://knowledge.hubspot.com/website-and-landing-pages/add-videos-to-hubspot-content), this needs Marketing Hub, Service Hub or Content Hub on Professional or Enterprise. Chapters need Content Hub Professional or Enterprise.
- **An embed from another host** means you paste a YouTube or Vimeo link, or the embed code from Wistia, Vidyard or Loom. [HubSpot's article on embedding media](https://knowledge.hubspot.com/website-pages/embed-an-external-media-file) says this works on every plan.

If you are on the free tools or Starter, the embed is the route you have.

## How to add a YouTube video to a HubSpot page

There are two places to do it, and both take a few seconds.

**In a rich text module**, which also works in blog posts:

1. Click into the text where the video should go.
2. Open *Insert* in the toolbar and choose *Embed*.
3. Paste the YouTube link into the box that opens. If the link returns an error, paste the embed code from YouTube's *Share \> Embed* instead.

**With the video module**, on pages with drag-and-drop areas:

1. Drag the *Video* module from the left sidebar into the page.
2. Set the video type to *Embed*.
3. Enter the video URL or the embed code.

The embed has two limits worth knowing. It only takes links in oEmbed format, which YouTube and Vimeo links are. Private videos with extra security, such as a private YouTube video, cannot be embedded this way. Use an unlisted video if the clip should stay off your channel page.

For HubSpot-hosted video, the same video module has a *HubSpot video* type with more options, including a title, an SEO description and a thumbnail, a CTA or form that shows before or after the video, and switches for loop, mute, autoplay and hiding the controls.

## What an embed costs the page

A YouTube embed loads YouTube's player as soon as the page loads, whether or not anyone presses play. Google's own [Lighthouse documentation on third-party facades](https://developer.chrome.com/docs/lighthouse/performance/third-party-facades) puts the full YouTube player at about 540 KB, against about 3 KB for a facade, which is a still image with a play button that swaps in the real player on the click.

A facade fixes this, because the visitor sees the cover image and the play button, and nothing loads from YouTube until they press it. The cover should hold the same 16:9 space as the player, so the page does not jump when the video arrives. The built-in HubSpot module has no facade setting.

## How to add a background video to a HubSpot hero

A background video is a short, silent clip that plays behind a headline. HubSpot's video module does not do this. It plays a video in a box, and its knowledge base article does not mention backgrounds. The question comes up on the [HubSpot community](https://community.hubspot.com/t5/Blog-Website-Page-Publishing/How-can-I-add-video-background-as-my-banner-landing-page/m-p/368031) too. You can use a theme whose hero module has a video background, a module from the Marketplace, or your own custom module with an HTML5 `<video>` element.

Whichever you pick, these are what separate a background video that helps the page from one that slows it down:

- **Use an uploaded file for the background**, because a YouTube player behind text brings its own controls and title bar, and it is slow to start. Upload a short MP4 to the files tool.
- **Keep the clip short and small**, ten to twenty seconds, compressed, with no audio track. A clip that loops cleanly is better than a long one.
- **Set it muted, looped and playsinline**, since browsers block autoplay with sound for most visitors, and phones need `playsinline` or the clip opens full screen.
- **Show a poster image first**, which appears straight away while the video waits for the page to finish loading. The headline never waits on a video file.
- **Give visitors a pause button**, because WCAG's [Pause, Stop, Hide](https://www.w3.org/WAI/WCAG22/Understanding/pause-stop-hide.html) rule asks for a way to pause anything that moves on its own for more than five seconds alongside other content. A looping background video is exactly that.
- **Respect reduced motion and data saving** by giving the poster to visitors who ask their device for reduced motion or have data saving on. Phones should get the poster too, unless you add a lighter, upright file for them.
- **Keep the text readable** with a dark or light wash over the video, so the headline stays legible on every frame of the clip.

If the hero needs to show the full film as well, add a button that opens it in a popup with the sound on. The background clip sets the mood, and the button answers the visitor who wants to see more.

## How to get a HubSpot video into Google

Google shows videos in its results and on the video tab, and it decides which ones. Its [video SEO guide](https://developers.google.com/search/docs/appearance/video) sets out what it needs:

- **Google wants a watch page**, which it describes as a page whose "main purpose is to show users a single video". A video halfway down a long services page is less likely to be shown than the same video on a page built around it.
- **Each video needs a thumbnail at a stable URL**, and its own name and description.
- **Structured data** means `VideoObject` markup with the name, description, thumbnail, upload date and duration, plus the player URL or the file URL.
- **Key moments** are chapters marked as `Clip` items, each with a start time, an end time and a label, and they appear as jump points under the result.
- **Google has to be able to load the video.** It says not to rely on a click to load the video. That conflicts with the facade, so choose per page. Use a facade where the video supports the copy, and load the real player where the video is the reason for the page.

HubSpot video fills in part of this for you. The title and SEO description you enter go into the page, the sitemap and social shares, and chapters are available on Content Hub Professional and Enterprise. An embedded YouTube video carries none of it. If you want the structured data, write it into the page yourself or use a module that writes it.

A transcript helps as well, because search engines read text, and a transcript on the page gives them every word said in the video, in a panel visitors can open when they want it.

## How to build a video library on HubSpot

Once a site has more than a handful of videos, such as webinar recordings, tutorials, customer stories or product tours, they need a page of their own. The built-in options get you a column of embeds, or a blog with one post per video. Neither lets a visitor filter by topic, search what was said, or move from one recording to the next.

A library page should do four things:

- **Visitors filter and search** with category tabs, a topic filter, and search across titles, speakers and transcripts. The filter belongs in the page address, so a filtered link opens filtered.
- **Videos play without leaving the page**, so each video opens over the page with its chapters and transcript, and the next button follows the list the visitor filtered.
- **Links open at the right minute**, so sales and support can send a link that opens one recording at the minute that answers the question.
- **The page stays light** when every card is a cover image until someone presses play. Twenty cards with twenty YouTube players would be the 540 KB problem twenty times over.

## Where Video Pro takes over

[Video Pro](https://www.studionope.com/video-pro) is our HubSpot module for the jobs the built-in tools leave out. You drop it on a page and pick its job, which can be a section with one video beside your copy, a hero with a background video, or a library. The film below runs through all three on the live demo.

<iframe src="https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/8-zbLD4AA9k?rel=0" title="HubSpot Video Module: Background Video, Video Gallery and Popup Player" style="position:absolute;inset:0;width:100%;height:100%;border:0" loading="lazy" allow="autoplay; encrypted-media; picture-in-picture; fullscreen" allowfullscreen></iframe>

- **It plays** YouTube, Vimeo, Wistia, Vidyard and Loom links, uploaded MP4 and WebM files, any direct MP4 link, and embed code. Paste the link and the module recognises the host.
- **Pages stay fast**, because every video is a cover image and a play button until someone presses play, and the cover holds its space.
- **The background hero** shows its cover first, starts a muted clip once the page has loaded, always has a pause button, and gives phones, data savers and reduced-motion visitors the cover unless you add a phone file. A button can open the full film in a popup.
- **A section** plays its video in place, in a popup or as a silent loop where a GIF used to be, and can end on a screen with your button or a HubSpot form.
- **Every video carries search data**, with `VideoObject` markup, chapters as key moments that link to the exact second, and the transcript on the page. For a watch page, one setting keeps the host's player in the page so Google finds the player as well as the data.

The library is a grid, a slider or a playlist, with category filters, tags, search and sort. Each video opens in a popup with chapters, the transcript, downloadable files, share links, and previous and next. A link can open one video at a chosen minute. Selected recordings can sit behind a HubSpot form, where one sign-up opens every gated video in the library. A webinar listed before it runs shows Upcoming with Register and Add to calendar, then Live now, then the replay.

Every colour, size and word is a field in the page editor, and the accent colour and fonts come from your theme. Play, progress, completion, filter, search and sign-up events go to Google Tag Manager.

## The limits, stated plainly

Video Pro runs on HubSpot CMS pages. It does not reach video in marketing emails, where HubSpot's own video module is the tool.

It has no hero slides with different text on each slide, does not play audio-only podcasts, and does not store analytics or pull view counts from YouTube. Its events go to Google Tag Manager for the reports you already run.

The form gate is for collecting leads. The video link stays in the page source, so use your video host's privacy settings for anything that must stay private.

Google decides which videos it shows, and structured data makes a video eligible for a result without guaranteeing one.
